If you have a Windows desktop I would stick with Hyper-V only if your version of Windows is on Windows 10/11 Enterprise, Pro, or Education. Windows 10 Home edition doesn’t support the Hyper-V feature. If you have home edition use something like VMware Workstation 17 Player.

I believe there is also a VMware Workstation for Linux.

If you have Mac use something like VMware Fusion.

If you can sacrifice a desktop though and want to setup a home server I would give Proxmox VE a try.
